shadow on left side of display

Thanks for inquiring. I visited local Genius Bar yesterday and technician said looks like display is "going out." Pointed out small damage at the upper corner of the display "frame" (?) and felt that could be a cause. Replace display for about $450. 15 months old, but obviously I haven't done my part to care for it. BTW shadow still there in SafeMode. I plan to just brighten display and/or move left margin over when I need to for the time being--while I consider best move and hope for a different solution.

The image is before and remains. No work was done. I am going to live with it while I decide whether to have repair done or replace whole laptop.
