File "Can't be Found" prompts after Ventura 13.1

It comes back every time a file is moved. The Finder is clearly caching something that isn't invalidated when the move happens. This is probably a 1-line fix, but Apple does not give af.

I agree... it happens less... but still happens.

Duplicating the file and deleting the original makes it better.. but what a PITA

Nope. It's not about the M1/M2 chips. I am on an Intel-based MacBook Pro (2018) and this also happens.

I have the exact same problem. But this was after I did boot in safe mode for another issue.

I've had this new MacBook Pro for 4 days.

Just upgraded to Ventura 13.1 yesterday.

I did a repair disk, and restart. It seemed to go away after that, but of course it came back. This is ridiculous.

Yup. Must be an OS issue. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the solution will be coming quickly. Possibly with the next OS update? I hope Apple is listening. I did find similar posts as far back as Big Sur. Please Apple.

I'm glad that seemed to work, but it's crazy that one should have to go through that. If mine keeps doing this I guess I'll have to call again or do what you did but I wish they would just resolve this.

Have any of you lost any file with this Mac OS bug? I have updated my Mac to Ventura 13.2 and I have noticed some pdfs were totally corrupted. Fortunately I had a copy of them. But it seems to me this bug is actually damaging files too. Its a nightmare to think Mac Os could randomly damage 180 thousand files and you will find out in what, years to come?

In Mac OS Ventura 13.1 we all also facing the same issue, file are not shown properly in SMB server. I attached video file for your reference.

UPDATE: Nope, it's still there. I also noticed something else, when I try to ⌘ + ⇧ + 4 (screenshot) and drop PNG file into webmail (OWA) - the file is suddenly without extension (so it is 'Screenshot 2023-02-14 at 14.18.43' instead of 'Screenshot 2023-02-14 at 14.18.43.png'). That's another weird finder's behavior and maybe it's linked with issue described in this thread...

Oh dear this has just started happening for me on a 1 week old Mac mini just after moving some files to a subfolder. Now every first attempt to open a file gets the not found message and then the second attempt works. Very annoying was hoping there would be a simple fix but it looks like I'm not alone.

yeah it was the first time I saw it today after moving a large number of files to a sub folder.

I guessed it was some sort of caching issue but couldn't fix it. Rebooted to be sure. Still there, not a great introduction to Ventura...

I have noticed it tends to happen on files stored on external disks, so it might be a Finder issue, e.g. not updating the local directory cache after files are moved or renamed.

its always in the local downloads folder for me and has come back after 2 different reboots for other reasons, very annoying bug hope it gets fixed soon.

I find that trying again immediately finds the file (CMD+Down shortcut to open file twice)
