Apple TV thumbnails of purchased shows are not showing up.

Does anyone know why after the most recent iOS update my thumbnails for the episodes of the shows I’ve purchased through iTunes aren’t populating in the Apple TV app under the library tab?

Hi True_Breed,

For help with thumbnails showing on your iPhone, test the steps below for a normal restart of your iPhone. Restart your iPhone

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. The volume button is located on the left side of the device, and the side button is located on the right
  3. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  4. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

If the issue continues, test loading the content on a different network. Connect to Wi-Fi on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers.

I tried that and the issue is still there. I believe there is a bug in the newest IOS update because I didn’t have this issue before I updated my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 16.2. But thanks for trying. I spent several hours talking to Apple specialists the other day and even factory reset my iPhone and the issue is still present. I’m at the point where I’ve tried everything on the end user end of things and think it has something to do with cache related to the Apple TV app and what info it’s pulling over from the iTunes Store as far as purchased content goes.

Hey everyone! I’ve been having this issue ever since the end of December (I am always up to date with IOS) what’s irritating is that it’s only with 1 movie out of a whole library! For me it’s Spider-Man No Way Home, a pretty new movie so there shouldn’t be any issues! What’s even more interesting is that on my Apple TV widget the thumbnail is there, and even on my actual Apple TV! But not my iPhone 12 Pro Max.. I actually have severe OCD so this is killing me

I am having the same issue since I upgraded my iPhone 13 and iPad Pro to the new IOS 16.2. I thought I was going crazy. I spent hours looking for answers and this is the first time I’m reading someone else is having the same issue. Seems like they are trying to phase out iTunes and move everything to Apple TV. I can still open every episode in iTunes I just don’t see a thumbnail like before, all it shows is a grey spot where a picture used to be. If anyone finds out how to clear this, kindly pass it on. Thank you

I’m having the same problem on my kid’s iPad. I download the most recent update (16.3) and it did nothing to help. My kid has special needs and relies heavily on photos to choose things. His iPad plays a big part in his sensory needs, but now he refuses to use it which causes major meltdowns throughout the day. You’re literally stating the most basic answer here that I’m sure everyone has already tried before searching for help. Please help to provide a real fix to this ASAP!

Good morning, iTunes777. I tried your suggestion and used the Search function instead of Library. Yes, I do see the episode icons using this approach. The problem, well, for me anyway, is a bunch of programs not in my library show up. I don't like the clutter and I hope I am able to see the thumbnails in my library soon. However, thank you for taking the time to response to my post. Have a good day.

FWIW, I spent half an hour on the phone Jan. 29 with Apple engineers about this issue on my iPad gen 9 with OS 16.3. It appeared to be a Home Sharing problem, since my iPad with 16.3 would not connect to the server. I sent them screenshots of the greyed-out thumbnails on my iPad 6th gen with 16.2. I sent a follow up email to Apple after I updated my 6th gen iPad (as a test to see if the connectivity problem would follow) to 16.3, but have received no reply.
