Apps and Category limits in Screen Time

Hi

Under screen time if I set a limit for a game App and set another limit for Games category, which one takes precedence?

eg. Roblox limit 1hr, Games limit 1 hr. Will roblox be accessible for 1 full hr while rest of the games another hr or will it ignore the app limit and set 1 hr for all the games (including Roblox)?

thanks

Hi there eugene.z,

If you set an app limit for a certain app in the 'Games' category as well as an app limit for the entire category, Screen Time should limit the specific game as well as all other games in the category for the amount of time set.

If you only set up an app limit for one app, then other apps or games would be able to be accessed after the set amount of time elapses. Essentially, setting up two app limits for the app and the app category behaves the same way as when you set one app limit for just the category. This shows how to do this as well if you need it: Set up Screen Time for a family member on iPhone

Thank you for your help.

If I understand correctly that means there is no such thing as precedence, always category limit takes place even if i set multiple other individual apps limits that are within the same category.

What I am trying to achieve is to allow certain specific Apps a time limit, let us say (1) Roblox, (2) Minescraft for example each 1 hour. I do that by creating two separate app rules of one hour for each. Ok so far... the problem however is that if I also wish to set a limit for all REMAINING games I will have to create a third rule not for all the Games category but for each individual game within the games category, which is a problem for me because for each new (future) game added or downloaded from the appstore i will have to add it to the third rule i ve last created.

what I need is to ensure for example

  • 1hr limit for roblox
  • 1hr limit for minescraft
  • 1hr limit for remaining (including any future newly downloaded) game without having to add it each time

hope that makes sense

thanks for any help
