¡A document folder was damaged! Folder turned into file

Never in my life had it happened to me that a folder suddenly got damaged and I couldn't access it. The strangest thing is that it weighs much less than it did. Now it's only 3.3mb and turned into a file. The icon instead of being a folder is a blank page. When I try to open the folder, it opens an excel that was inside! but everything else disappeared. Unfortunately my Dropbox backup copied the update and won't let me recover it either. I already did a search with Disk Drill to find all the files on the hard drive and found nothing.

All this happened when I restarted the computer a couple of days ago (December 21). I seriously don't understand anything and it was very important information. And I'm worried that something like this could happen with a folder, nothing is safe anymore.

Do you have a Time Machine backup to Restore to/from?

Start with this of M1 or M2 Mac...

Start up a Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.

Press and hold the power button on your Mac until the startup options window appears showing available startup disks and Options.

Select a startup disk.

Press and hold the Shift key, click Continue in Safe Mode, then release the Shift key.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally, without pressing and holding any keys during startup.

Start with this if IntelMac...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
