external disk does not appear in sidebar

It shows in the desktop and works ok but when I need to access it I have to go to the desktop and open it in the icon. My settings are ok and the other disks behave normally. First aid won't help because when I try to run it, it can't unmount the volume. Formatting the drive is not an option, it's a 12TB and I have no place or time to back it up
