AirPlay will not connect to Sonos One

injust received a Sonos One for Christmas but am severely disappointed because I am unable to connect to it with AirPlay from any device. When I try with my iPhone, the phone simply says “Unable to connect to …,” and when I try with my MacBook it says exactly what this poster reported more than two years ago:

“Why won't Airplay connect to my Sonos One speakers? This is the error I get: "An unknown error occurred (-15007)."

The advice or tips I find around the web amount to, simply, “reset everything in the network including the router and all your devices” or “turn off Bluetooth and/or cellular data” (the last of course has no relation to the MacBook, so I find it silly, to say the least).

Has anyone found any reliable fix for this persistent issue? The airplay seems to connect fine to my Apple TV from all devices. It’s just the Sonos One that doesn’t seem to accept airplay connections, even though it always appears in the airplay menu as an available device.

Anyone?

Hi Christopher Weck,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We'd recommend starting with the guidance in the related article, If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device.

"Try these steps first

After each step, see if you still need help.

  1. Make sure that your AirPlay-compatible devices are turned on and near each other.
  2. Check that the devices are updated to the latest software and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Restart the devices that you want to use with AirPlay or screen mirroring.

If you're prompted to enter a password, you might have restrictions turned on, or you might need to adjust your AirPlay password settings."

Next, since similar issues happen from both your iPhone and Mac, there may be an issue on the speaker end. For instance, perhaps there is a firmware update available. Sonos Customer Service would be in the best position to help further if that's the case. We did find this page from Sonos that might be helpful - Stream AirPlay audio to Sonos. The paperwork that came with your product should have contact information. But we did find Contact Sonos using an internet search as well.

All the best.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, as stated above, I have already done all the basic things suggested in the boilerplate recommendations. All connections via Wi-Fi with all devices seem to be fine. Airplay works from all devices to the Apple TV on the same network. The Sonos One appears in the airplay lists, but neither the iPhone, iPad nor the MacBook can actually connect to it. I always get the error message from the MacBook, and the “cannot connect to xxx” from the iPad and iPhone.

The Sonos support article is again just basic “how to connect” information and has no troubleshooting suggestions, at least that I can see.

Could there be some esoteric setting on my router that should be double-checked? I have seen mention of this same problem pretty extensively on the web and have yet to find any indication that there is a fix the user can perform outside of restarting everything, including the router, and hoping for better results the next time.

I was hoping that maybe someone who has experienced this issue and found a fix would have some advice.
