Ready for your new iPad. Your data is ready to be moved to your new iPad. This iCloud back up will delete in 21 days

I bought an iPad online as a GIFT for my husband, NOT to replace my own iPad. We picked his iPad up from the Apple Store and had his new iPad set up there. When we got home I saw this notification on MY iPad- “This iCloud back up will delete in 21 days.” I don’t want to lose my own backed up information on my own iPad. His new iPad was backed up and properly uploaded from HIS OLD iPad to his new iPad at the Apple Store. Is there way to remove this notification on MY iPad or stop the deleting process in 21 days on my iPad. PLEASE ADVISE!

I didn’t need to transfer my iPad information into a new iPad. I DIDN’T purchase a iPad for myself. There apparently is a glitch when one purchases an iPad for someone as a gift using your own APPLE ACCOUNT ONLINE as I did for my husband. I spoke to a senior technician this morning by phone. Since my husband’s iPad was transferred by an Apple tech at the Apple Store successfully, nothing will change on my iPad nor my husband’s new one since we both have separate Apple Accounts. He said the above message will disappear after the allotted time on my iPad. I will not lose any of my backed up information from my own iPad. To be extra sure, I did another back up on my iPad successfully today.

Hello veronica320,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. It sound like the message is related to temporary iCloud storage that is provided when a new device is being set up and you don't have enough iCloud space to store a full backup.

How much time you have to restore your temporary backup

You have 21 days to restore your temporary backup to your new iPhone or iPad before your temporary iCloud storage expires and your backup is permanently deleted.

Do not erase your current iPhone or iPad until you restore your temporary backup to your new device.

If your new iPhone or iPad doesn’t arrive within 21 days, you can get an additional 21 days to restore your temporary backup before it’s deleted. On your current iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap Keep My Backup Longer.

To request additional time to restore your temporary backup before it's deleted, contact Apple Support.

Get temporary iCloud storage when you buy a new iPhone or iPad

Since this is a temporary backup, you shouldn't have any concerns about its removal from iCloud. If you do worry, go ahead, and make a new backup of your device.

We hope you find this helpful.

Best regards.
