what do you think about the clay party website? Apparently, when you enter it, it steals your IP address, phone number, home address. They start calling you, texting you threats, sending strange packages and stealing data from your phone. Is it possible on iphone? I ask because I often worry about such stupid things and until I find out from experienced people, I worry.

Worry is far from unique.

So too is feeding that worry.

I’ve got bad news about feeding that worry, too: worry is a fundamental part of the foundation of social media, of much of the insurance industry, of the IT security industry, and of a whole lot of advertising generally, and seemingly also part of your of TikTok viewing preferences.

Now again, only you can make the choice here. Learn. Or worry.

Some learning, and some steps to take:

Personal Safety User Guide - Apple Support (there’s a PDF available there.)

Apple Platform Security - Apple Support (and a PDF is available there, too.)

I can’t and won’t tell you that learning will entirely eliminate worry. But it will help you better recognize and manage it.

If you don't enter your information into the site, you're fine. Use your common sense. If you don't want someone to call you or bother you, don't give them your contact information.

Stop believing TikTok. People post on TikTok so they get more views, more attention. Posting something where they say "Don't enter information into untrustworthy websites", while good advice and accurate, is not exciting. So, they make up more exciting stuff. Or they exaggerate.

what do you mean

It means it can't happen. IPs are like the number of the front of your house. Anyone walking by can see them. That doesn't mean they can do anything bad with them.

Do not give dodgy websites your information and you will be fine. Also, take a break from TikTok as it it seems to be upsetting you with the nonsense someone is posting.

My first suggestion, then is stay off tiktok.

Your data can’t be stolen unless you are careless with your passwords by reusing them and not taking advantage of 2 factor authentication where it is offered.

Your phone (iPhone or Android) cannot be hacked unless you give it to someone while it is unlocked.

Your computer is highly unlikely be hacked if you have a Mac or if you have Windows and you keep Windows Defender or other antivirus up to date.

The businesses you deal with CAN be hacked, and frequently are, but you do have not control over that, except to have really strong passwords for all of the sites you visit. Really strong is 12 or more random characters, or combinations of words not identifiable as you and numbers, for example “nifty459comet”, not “mydaughterjane” And never use the same password for different sites or apps.

Is it possible that a message appeared forcing data, e.g. email and password, and I confirmed it with face id by accident? Unfortunately, it is impossible to control whether I confirm the face id password, it immediately pops up and is already confirmed

This whole thread is incongruous.

You claim great concern about security, yet persist in behaviors that seemingly concern you yourself.

We cannot help you here.

Not until you pick a direction.

Entertainment and advertising and the rest of what you’ve been posting about? Or security information?

I’m sure there’s cogent security info available on TikTok, too. (This isn’t the best spot to ask about where that information might be, though.)

Your IP address is public information. Just like your street address, your phone number, and lots of other personal information. And your IP address is not fixed; it changes frequently. And if you are going to have two way communication via text, email, buying something on the web, using an app, or posting in a forum such as this one the party on the other end needs to know your IP address so they can carry on a 2 way conversation with you. You are not at risk just because someone knows your IP address. OTOH, your IP address can be used to track you as you visit different websites. this isn’t a security risk, but it does mean that one business can know other businesses you have accessed.

That’s why Apple offers iCloud+ Private Relay. If you subscribe to any level of iCloud+ (starting at 99¢ a month for 50 GB of iCloud storage) you can enable Private Relay. It hides your IP address when visiting websites, and also hides your web lookups by using encrypted DNS lookups.

It’s easy to get your home address, and not from your IP address. It’s a matter of public record. Just google yourself.

Owing to a recent property tax increase, I decided to see what all of my neighbors were paying. Went to my city's tax website, entered the addresses and was able to see who owned the houses, how much they were assessed for, what the property tax was and who had a delinquent tax bill. All public records.
