Hi,

The latest supported printer driver for the Brother MFC-7840W appears to be (1.5.0) for macOS 10.15 Catalina:

https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=mfc7840w_all&os=10060

For some Brother printer models, a macOS Catalina driver has worked even with a later operating system, but that would be entirely experimental.

A printing system reset may be needed between tests.

Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

If nothing else works, you could perhaps try a generic PCL printer driver. The MFC-7840W specifications indicate support for PCL6.

You may want to try a network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) for the printer instead of USB, or vice versa.

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything.

Hi drskgupte,

The first step in addressing problems with configuring your printer will be to check out Solve printing problems on Mac:

"Make sure you have the latest software

Make sure you have the correct version of your printer’s software (also called its printer driver). If you’re using a printer that another user is sharing, make sure you’re both using the same version of the printer software.

  1. On your Mac, to find out which version of printer software you’re using, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners in the sidebar.
  2. Click the printer in the Printers list on the right, click Options & Supplies, then check the Driver version.

Contact with the printer manufacturer to see if you have the latest driver version."

Contacting the manufacturer of your printer for supported drivers, if available, may be necessary.

Regards.
