How do I turn Do Not Disturb mode off on my iPhone?

Lawrence Finch: Did you see the part where coolside wrote, "I don’t want to use this feature, ever."? Then why describe settings that only apply when DND is On?

I'm using Sonoma v14.4.1 on a MBP and iOS 17.4.1 on iPhone 15 Pro. I've been an Apple Developer since the Apple II days, and this Do Not Disturb feature and defaults break several GUI principles on both platforms. Especially the principle of Least Surprise.

On the MacBook, System Settings, Focus panel, "Do Not Disturb" says "On" but offers no way to turn it off. You have to notice there's a Crescent Moon icon in the menubar to turn it off. Again on the iPhone, you have to know there's nothing in Settings to turn it off, it's the Crescent Moon icon in the Control Center. Once they know to go there to turn it off, there's no reason to describe Focus Settings.

Also note: When I accidentally turned on DND on my iPhone, it also turned it On on my MacBook! So then I found the iPhone Settings > Focus feature, "Share Across Devices" was switched On. I turned it Off, and then turned off DND on the iPhone, only to find out (of course) DND was still On on my MacBook!

I'm sure there are people who find all this flexibility worth the effort to learn how it works. But when someone says, "I just want to turn it off", then don't send them into Settings!

Swipe from top right, gets you to controls. The push the do not disturb off button.

The only way I could turn it off was to ask Siri to turn it off! There wasn’t any option available on the screen

The only thing that worked for me was to use voice command “Switch off Do Not Disturb”. I use voice commands for lots of things, e.g., flashlight on/off. Bluetooth on/off. If I’m not wearing my reading glasses to see the screen details, it’s the only way I’m going to get anywhere :)

You can always turn off Focus by opening the Control Panel and tapping on the small, circular picture on the Focus button. Just tap, don't press and don't tap the words, just the picture.

The option is in Control Center, as has been explained previously in this thread.

I have just got an Apple phone from using Android. Bit of a learning curve, but this stumped me. The moon is showing up at the top left and shows on in the focus screen but can not be turned off because it is shaded out.

This is a pretty stupid set up. Keep trying I suppose.

Ok I asked Siri and it went off.

Use Siri. Every direction given to turn it off didn’t work because none of the settings they suggest are there. I asked Siri to turn off do not disturb and that worked. I am do sick of Apple iPhones quirks!

As it can't be removed from Control Center, it's there. If some other focus (e.g. Work) is enabled, the button will say "Work".

You can also try saying, "Hey, Siri, turn off focus."

You tap WHAT? You must:

• open the Control Center
• Tap the button circled in green (NOT THE WORD Focus)

Just ask Siri to turn it off and she does!

Tell Siri to turn it off. This works!

you pull the menu that your flashlight is and then click the moon symbol - it’s not in the setting menu

That’s crazy I been dealing with it for days trying to get it off and all I had to do is ask Siri to turn Do not Disturb off and walla I’m doing the happy dance with
