Unable to mount USB-C drive in Ventura

I use a 2 TB G-Drive for my time machine backup. Since updating to Ventura, it will not recognize if I plug it into either USB-C port. It will not mount, or perform any other tasks in disk utility. However, if I plug it in to my peripheral dock, it fires right up and does my TM backup.

Strange, right?

When connected directly, usb-c to usb-c.. it does not recognize. Tried both ports, and different usb-c to usb-c cords.

when plugged into my dock using a usb-c to USB, it works fine.
