M1 Mac mini not showing native display resolution
Hi
Just bought an M1 Mac Mini, had to buy a brand new flimsy, overpriced non backlit magic keyboard as my Logi Mini Keys for Mac would not allow me to get past the installation screen. (The tec support told me to use the 'keyboard and mouse that came with computer' despite Steve Jobs famously boasting it doesn't come (and never has) come with a keyboard or mouse)
Now it is showing my 2010 Dell U3011 professional monitor as having a resolution of only 1920 x1200, which is incorrect, as it's 2560x1600.
There are no higher options.
Louis, apparently a senior tec advisor of 8 years, apparently, suggested that that maybe the maximum resolution of my mac, ie less than 2k, for a new M1 mac mini.
I told him my Mac Pro (mid 2010) Xeon runs the 2K monitor just fine, I also asked him if Apple has ever made a product that natively runs on Mac OS Ventura that is unable to support 2K resolution as I am 100% sure there isn't one.
That is Apple supports top brass right there.
Yes, it is a new, quality HDMI cable only 30cm so no error or signal loss.
The M1 onboard graphics obviously is not able to talk with the monitor or rather is communicating ineffectively.
I find this incredible, the Dell Ultrasharp U3011 was £1300 back in 2010 and a top of the range professional, calibrated at the factory, design monitor, it works perfectly in High Sierra 10.13 on my 2010 Mac Pro workstation.
There must be thousands of people with new Mac Minis using older professional displays, how come 3 years after release has Apple not been able to make their M1 macs works as well as their 2010 Macs?
If I am forced to buy a new 30 in professional display it makes my mac mini more expensive than other options.
Is there any way around this? Thank you.
Mac mini, macOS 13.1
