"BATTERY_LEVEL_FORMAT" Error Message

I'm an IT Specialist but I've never seen this message before and I really want to know why there's no information about it.

It appears my client entered their password incorrectly logging into their MacBook Pro 13" 2020 running Monterey 12.6.2.

However, the MacBook then just sat on the white Apple start-up screen and never came back up to request a password, it appeared to be bricked. I held down the power button and I reset the parameter RAM (⌘⌥PR) and got the computer to start again.

The computer would no longer accept the 100% certain correct password but required the 'reset password with AppleID' method. That's great, I have all that information.

Then this screen came up:

In the upper right-hand corner is the message "BATTERY_LEVEL_FORMAT". The battery on the computer was at 100% and plugged into power. The inference in this message, which appears no-where ever in a Google search, is that continuing may result in the reformatting of the storage. So weird.

Knowing that I have a recent Time Machine backup and iCloud synchronisation, I took the risk and entered the password that I knew was correct, and the computer was able to start after relatively long pause of 30+ seconds.

The computer now seems to be running normally.

Has anyone else encountered this "BATTERY_LEVEL_FORMAT" message and can anyone explain why I had to do a triple parameter RAM reset to even get the computer to boot after the password was entered wrong?

All of the text on the screen is localization placeholders. Normally, they would be replaced with the language-specific text for the items.

Specifically, "BATTERY_LEVEL_FORMAT" would be the battery level indication in whatever language the Mac is set to use. However, that localization function is not working and all you see is the placeholders.

I don't imagine you will get anywhere without erasing and reinstalling, but I don't know for sure.

I got back in after an iCloud password reset. Nothing in the logs indicate what went wrong. Perseverance on initiating an iCloud password reset back to the original known password got past all that mess and the computer is running normally. Note to all users: “make sure you allow password reset by AppleId” in your user designation in your preferences especially if you have drive encryption enabled. That solved this problem, but not without a PRAM reset.
