Safari and Mail stopped working together. Mail hyperlinks don't work anymore

This started this morning. Opened computer and I have 3 to 6 website pages open from last night. Computer had been on, asleep, not connected to internet. Looked and pages no longer open. Clicked on a link on message that had come in. didn't open page on Safari. Have now tested with many other messages and links. After click goes to Safari but only Start page is open, not the link

Found a similar post here from 9 years ago. said to select Safari in Preferences as default.

Hyperlinks have stopped working in Mail - Apple Community

So went to Safari>Settings>General (no more Preference) and no default browser setting.

Don't know if relevant but I've had multiple problems since upgraded to Ventura. Each ended with call support. I can't. out of country and Apple support only has 800 numbers.

Have you rebooted since the problem started? If not gve this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Q1 - Computer had been on, asleep, not connected to internet. Looked and pages no longer open.

A1 - If as the user states above is accurate - what does the user expect will happen without an Active and Functional Internet Connection ?

I CONNECTED BEFORE I TRIED A LINK. Is that what you thought I said? I'm that stupid? Did you think you were helping me? I even indicated that before posting, I'd researched the problem in discussions and only found 1 post 9 years ago.

I got an email that I had a response to my post. I was connected, since that's how I got it. i clicked on the link to view discussion. page switch to Start page in Safari, but not the link to this discussion.

I obviously should not have mentioned about what went before. It misled. I was just trying to say that I did nothing BEFORE woke computer and connected. too much information.

Safari and Mail stopped working together. Mail hyperlinks don't work anymore
