iPhone X Contacts and Calls Blank Screen

I have recently updated to iOS16 and my Contacts and Phone Call screens are blank. Everything else seems to work. I can accept calls but not make them as the screen goes blank when I touch the Green Telephone Icon or the Contacts Icon. I have reset my phone by shutting it down and rebooting but this has changed nothing. The Phone and Contact Screens are black as if frozen !! All other parts of the phone are fine, email, WhatsApp, iMessage, etc... Hopefully someone has worked out the solution. Thank you. JimE

Hey there jimiletgo,

That's a strange thing to occur with both Contacts and the Phone apps, and we'd like to help get them working as expected. Let's start with confirming more details to better understand what's going on, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. When did this start to occur?
  2. What do you do to get the screen to show again when it does go black/blank?
  3. You mentioned updating to iOS 16 recently, but the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

Hello Bruno75

Thank you for responding.

It started after updating to iOS 16.2

The screen is blank when I touch either the contact or phone icon

If I leave it returns to the Home Screen in about 60 secs.

Otherwise I can swipe-up to get back to the home screen and then I can access all the other functions JUST NOT phone or contacts !?

thank you

We appreciate these details, jimiletgo,

Since you've already updated and restarted your iPhone, you can also your Network Settings. When you reset your Network Settings, it resets your cellular settings, Wi-Fi networks and passwords and any VPN or APN settings that you've used before. You can go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings then check your Phone app again.

Also, you can change the Default Account associated with your Contacts to test your Phone app. To do so, you can go to Settings > Contacts > Default Account and choose a different account, if you have one listed, restart your iPhone then check the Phone app again.

If you're still unable to access the Phone app and Contacts, we'd ask that you reach out to Apple directly to investigate this further with you. You can reach them here: Apple Support

Take care!
