Mail crashing after installing macOS Ventura (clean install)

I am at my wits end with the Mail.app and macOS Ventura - it seems no matter what I do to fix this issue it continues to crash. It seems that macOS Ventura is the problem. Mail.app never crashed on Monterey or on Big Sur. I was on a support call with Apple Support and went through just about every possible solution and nothing seems to work.

The issue was believed to have been resolved yesterday however, today while attempting to delete an email in the mail.app it crashed again. I was on the phone with a third support rep and had agreed to erase my SSD and reinstall macOS (clean install) I installed Monterey and before I added any other apps I upgraded to Ventura 13.2

I am expecting the tech to call me back within the next 10 minutes because as I was going through my email again the mail.app crashed and it does not matter which account I am in or which email I am looking at to delete it crashes.

Previously, I booted into safe boot and it still caused mail.app to crash. I have tried adding a test account on my MBA m1. to see if this issue was only on my account and the crash once again happened. I am seriously thinking Apple has bloated macOS too much instead of adding new features rather they are useful or not Apple would be better off making sure what we already have is working. Sadly, this is starting to remind me of Windows (chose your flavor)

With a fresh system and no user files it's beginning to sound more like some sort of hardware issue. The next step would be to take it into the nearest  Apple Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider for free diagnostic tests.  Preferably a Genius Bar.

@etresoft, Sorry this not for you RebelBear.
so, when you go to the link I sent previously do you see anything like the attachments I am attaching here? One should be a list of the states scroll down to your state and then once you select your state you are then taken to the second page that has information on how to subscribe... for some reason the website doesn't make it very obvious.

Yeah. I saw all of that. I had to put in a fake location and zip code as I don't live in the US. I used Erie county and 14225, which is the zip code for Apple Walden Galleria. That should have worked.

I'm not hard to find on the internet. If anyone does have this message and can send it to me, I would appreciate it. You just can't do basic "forward". You have to zip the original message so I can see the DKIM header. Apple Mail also has a "forward as attachment" that would work too.

@krypttic, thanks for posting while that forum may have to do with Ventura and Cox.email my issue was with Apple's own email and email.app and an email I was receiving from emergencyemail.com. While the issue itself is NOT resolved. I have been able to get around the problem by deleting the email messages that were in this issue and I unsubscribed to the email list so future emails from the list do not cause further issues until Apple figures out a way to resolve the problem.

I am going to read through the forum you posted a link to, to see if there is anything I can offer as far as a temporary work around. They may have already done what I have learned to do either way it's good to learn about these issues.

Thanks for posting...

I tried all of the steps you mentioned except a clean install on my Mac. A senior support rep helped me remove all the programs running in the background, some of which had been uninstalled or so I thought. My problem started after Ventura 13.2 and continued after 13.2.1.

I already have Microsoft Outlook for Mac and will use that as the default mail program. I like the look and feel of the built in Apple Mail for Mac, but there is a finite amount of time I can spend on this. I was going to erase and reinstall the OS, but based on the comments of others, it is not likely to help.

Hi,

I would love help on this too. Since Ventura, every time I attach a screenshot to an email my entire mail system crashes. If it is due to an email in my system with something in the code causing this, how can I determine which email it is? I get so much spam and emails that I unsubscribe from constantly but daily it is hundreds despite unsubscribing so how do I find the culprit email?

Thanks

Zelda01,

I feel you about the spam emails. here is my suggestion - DO NOT Unsubscribe to spam email. While unsubscribing to a subscription email you actually subscribed to helps remove you from the email list of that subscription. It DOES NOT remove you from a spammers email list. While Apple is attempting to help us eliminate spam by hiding our I.P. address etc, when you click on the unsubscribe link or button on a known spam email you have actually verified to the spammer that the email address they spam to is a live email account which in turn they not only send you more spam emails they as well mark it as a live email account and pass it onto a list for other spammers to send to that email address.

While I love the Apple eco-system. Apple has not address the spam email issue very well, while they give us these new tools to attempt to hide our information from prying eyes they do very little in controlling the spam that does come through. - You can set up your junk email controller in the mail.app to your hearts content and just when you think you have resolved BAM! - Another 500 spam emails come through.

I find it interesting because Apple does a great job in protecting our computers from Malware etc, but fails with junk/spam while both Google and Microsoft does a MUCH better job. I have three email accounts. 1 with iCloud, 1 With Outlook.com, and 1 Gmail account. - the gmail account has the least amount of spam forwarded to my mail.app on both my iPhone and Mac. While I still get hundreds and sometimes thousands of spam email from my iCloud account a day.

Apple introduced "Hide My Email." its a great concept, in that anything you either subscribe to or have suspicion you use that generated email address instead of your personal email address. You still get the email forwarded to your connected email address but the subscription service does not get your actual email address that way if you start noticing a lot of spam emails you can simple turn off or remove the account that has the spam forwarding to you in the tools that Apple provides. Once you eliminate that Hide my Email address the spam stops so long as you did not reply with your real email address.

The worst offenders are the ones that claim they don't sell your private information. So, I highly recommend you give "Hide My Email." a try when you are giving out your email to online stores, services that you don't know very well or subscriptions or websites that require you to register an email address.

And just because you own an Apple device, does not mean you have to stick to just Apple apps and or services, sometimes a better solution is available with a different company or service provider.

Hopefully, all this makes sense to you and is helpful.
