Mail crashing after installing macOS Ventura (clean install)

I am at my wits end with the Mail.app and macOS Ventura - it seems no matter what I do to fix this issue it continues to crash. It seems that macOS Ventura is the problem. Mail.app never crashed on Monterey or on Big Sur. I was on a support call with Apple Support and went through just about every possible solution and nothing seems to work.

The issue was believed to have been resolved yesterday however, today while attempting to delete an email in the mail.app it crashed again. I was on the phone with a third support rep and had agreed to erase my SSD and reinstall macOS (clean install) I installed Monterey and before I added any other apps I upgraded to Ventura 13.2

I am expecting the tech to call me back within the next 10 minutes because as I was going through my email again the mail.app crashed and it does not matter which account I am in or which email I am looking at to delete it crashes.

Previously, I booted into safe boot and it still caused mail.app to crash. I have tried adding a test account on my MBA m1. to see if this issue was only on my account and the crash once again happened. I am seriously thinking Apple has bloated macOS too much instead of adding new features rather they are useful or not Apple would be better off making sure what we already have is working. Sadly, this is starting to remind me of Windows (chose your flavor)

With a fresh system and no user files it's beginning to sound more like some sort of hardware issue. The next step would be to take it into the nearest  Apple Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider for free diagnostic tests.  Preferably a Genius Bar.

Old Toad, (like the name LOL) thank you for the information I have ran the test and here is the report let me know if you or anyone needs more information, just so you know Apple (Apple Support) also has a report I ran that they asked me to do in an app they had me download they sent me. My best guess is that this is an OS related issue that needs to be fixed by Apple in addition to the "Hide My Email." issue in Safari. Thank you again for your help it is much appreciated.

Thanks for your post, MobileMeKevin.

I think what I'm saying - I stress: in the spirit of trying to help, not to dispute your experience - is that if Mail crashes instantly with no (email) accounts configured, no extra associated software on a new machine with a freshly installed OS in Safe Mode with a new user, then I suspect that more people would be experiencing it. Because they'd have an environment in most ways comparable with the one you're having such difficulty with.

I can see how thorough you've been - and really feel for you. We all reply on email. I'm so sorry. Just that I have Mail running on a MBP and an iMac Pro and haven't - presumably like hundreds of thousands of users - had such trouble.

I'm just trying, in a respectful and hopefully supportive way, to float the idea that there may well be some other combination of circumstances - hidden, obscure, indirect, edge case and otherwise almost impossible to isolate - that must be contributing to this.

Here's hoping you find a solution - and quickly!

I totally, get what you are saying and I fully respect and appreciate what you have suggested. What I was trying to convey is that everything you have already suggested I have tried. Right now, as I type this reply to you is my system is pure Apple nothing third party installed - that is why I contacted Apple as nothing on my MacBook Air M1-Late 2020 makes sense as to why this is happening. My conclusion is that it has to be Ventura and compatibility with the default mail.app. rather anyone else is having this issue. While doing a search on here I saw that others have posted similar issues. The problem is not replicated in macOS Monterey if I switch back to it. So, if the issue has been reported by others which I have seen and myself there is a problem. Rather you experience it on your mac's doesn't mean myself or other don't have this issue. Again thank you for your input I appreciate it.

Thank you to everyone who are trying to help I appreciate it. I have several crash reports so I will attach one. I apologize in advance as even though I worked in I.T. and Mac specific this is the first time I ever used a community support form so if I add something that may either be too much information or not enough bare with me as I figure out how to attach files to this reply.

Hi Old Toad, just an F.Y.I. you requested I follow these steps before and I did as well as provided the report from Etrecheck previously. But to answer your question regarding Clean install - I erased the internal SSD and and activated the M1-MBA and then reinstalling a clean version of macOS Ventura 13.2. From the boot options. To keep from adding any bugs onto the new installation I did not do a migration or restore of anything from Time Machine backup.

In addition after trying all of the previous solutions others have attempted to provide. I then created a bootable USB Thumb drive and erased the Internal SSD once again and installed a clean copy of macOS Ventura 13.2 from the thumb drive. The issue remains.

thank you @jeffios, I have taken your advice and I have done a clean install of macOS Ventura 13.1 - I gave up on 13.2 - I will now test the mail.app to see if I have further issues, either way I am done. (LOL) Apple should pay us for all of these attempts to find a solution. If it's stable I will post in a few days. Of course if it's not and I continue to have the problem I will update it one last time and leave this forum, thank you again for your suggestion.

I was hoping to write some good news and finally close this thread regarding my issue with macOS Ventura 13.2/13.1 and 13 whatever, but unfortunately it remains an issue. I had to access my M1-MBA this morning and was working on an email. While saving an attachment and working just in the attachment with mail.app in the background. I sent the attachment (a PDF file) to the printer and the mail.app crashed yet again. This time under macOS Ventura 13.1 - While I guess this could be a hardware issue it doesn't help since my AppleCare+ has now expired so, if it is an issue with hardware I seriously doubt Apple will do anything to help.

The only guesses I can come up with is that maybe my M1-MBA is limited to what I can do with it even though I believe what I am doing with it are simple tasks such as browsing the internet, checking/replying to emails, and or texting via texting w/iCloud. At most I would have 2-4 tabs open at any given time in Safari. Generally, three tabs as I visit 3 websites daily and if I am bored I tend to close out of one or more.

So, the three apps that are usually running are Safari (latest version), Messages, and Mail. these are the number one apps I am in daily and throughout the day. Often times I will open a note or some other app but none of my apps crash. And I usually get in and out of the extra apps I may have to use.

I guess I would imagine if memory was an issue Safari would be the first one to complain I as well assume that macOS was able to deal with low memory and use the SSD as swap if needed. But, here is the concern if that is the case mail.app should not crash, I would expect a warning that I needed to free up memory.

One last note / question, Is it possible that my mail Archive mailbox is too big? I pay Apple $2.99 a month for 200 GB of space on iCloud. I am using only about 20% of that space at given time. So, I would not expect this to be the reason but if anyone could give me any information on how Archive works and if maybe saving important emails on iCloud is what may be causing my crashes that would be appreciate it. This is only thing I could think of as to why mail app is crashing.

Hi Jeffios, I do not do a migration from from a previous install or system. I do clean and start over with settings etc. However, once I started having the crashes again with macOS Ventura 13.1 that I downgraded to I went back again to 13.2 because in 13.1 for some reason macOS kept installing the generic driver for my printer. When I updated back to 13.2 the removed and install the printer again the correct driver became available and my printer is functioning again... just not the mail.app. the origin of the pain in my Nethers LOL and I am sure everyone on here is about tired of coming across my issue. Anyway thanks.

OK. The hamburger menu is only on the mobile version. But still, it just scrolls down to the menu on the page.

Yes. I see the unsubscribe well enough. I just can't figure out how to subscribe in the first place to get the e-mail.

@etresoft, Sorry this not for you RebelBear.

so, when you go to the link I sent previously do you see anything like the attachments I am attaching here? One should be a list of the states scroll down to your state and then once you select your state you are then taken to the second page that has information on how to subscribe... for some reason the website doesn't make it very obvious.
