Memoji "Three Dot" Key Not Working in Messags

Hi All!

When typing a text in the message app, I have an issue with Apple memojis. After clicking to use the emoji keyboard, I can scroll to the far left to see the Apple memoji I created. You can see eight "frequently used" memojis and then a key with three dots. I am unable to click on this three dot key to select other memojis. This does not happen in mail, WhatsApp, or any other app where I can create messages - only in the message app.

Does anyone know why this is happening? It's been like this for over a year, but I cannot think of anything that caused it. I have the most recent iOS and plenty of storage. Resetting the phone does not help.

I look forward to hearing back! Thanks.

Hi rlindo,

Thanks for the post. It looks like you're having an issue using Memoji. We'd like to get a few details to see if we can work out what's happening.

You mentioned using the Emoji keyboard. We tested this out and when we check the Emoji keyboard, we only see the included emoji rather than the custom-made Memoji and we're not seeing the three dots there. To clarify, did you mean you're tapping the Memoji icon in the App Drawer? You'll see an example in the text below. Use Memoji in Messages on iPhone:

"Create your own Memoji

You can design your own personalized Memoji—choose skin tone, headwear, glasses, and more. You can create multiple Memoji for different moods.

The Memoji screen, showing the character being created at the top, features to customize below the character, then below that, options for the selected feature. The Done button is at the top right and the Cancel button is at the top left.

  1. In a conversation, tap the Memoji Stickers button, then tap the New Memoji button.
  2. Tap each feature and choose the options you want. As you add features to your Memoji, your character comes to life.
  3. Tap Done to add the Memoji to your collection."

We do see the three dots when tapping the Memoji icon in the App Drawer, and when you tap that, you should see options to edit and duplicate your custom Memoji.

If you're tapping the dots there and get no response, and this has been happening for some time, we recommend using the following link to reach us directly so we can look into this further: Apple Support

Take care.
