Kids iPad needs multiple passwords to download app

Hi! I have 3 kids under 13, all just connected to family sharing. When they want to download an app it asks for a password to sign into Apple ID. Then it asks for the password again to BUY the app. Then, once i receive the request and approve it, it asks them a third time for a password, just to download the app. Is this normal? I tried calling customer service and got nowhere. It also happened on all 3 of my kids iPads, so it’s not like it’s a singular incident.

iPad, iPadOS 15

Hello Dhuber87,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We're happy to look into this with you. Have you checked their settings to see if there's a way to change settings related to purchases from App Store? If not, try the following path:

  1. Open Settings app on iPad
  2. Select Touch ID and Passcode
  3. Is the slider in the ON position for iTunes & App Store, under section "User Touch ID For:"? If not, try enabling it and see if that helps with the number of entries they need to make with their passwords to make their purchase/request.

Check out Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support section: Use Touch ID to unlock your iPhone/iPad or make purchases.

Best regards.
