Mail app no longer autofilling contact email addresses

So I recently updated an iPad to iPadOS 16.3 and now whenever I try to send emails using the Mail app, most of my contacts emails are no longer populating in the recipient field. I’ll begin typing a contact’s name in the field and no drop down with their address pops up, which means I have to manually search for their name/email every time (which become a hassle when you have to do it every time).

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi itsaudacious,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

Are you using iCloud Mail or a mail account from a different email provider?

Also, do you have a different Apple device that is signed in to the same mail accounts as your iPad? If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue with your other device?

If you have multiple mail accounts on your iPad, let's make sure that they are all active.

If a mail account has been inadvertently removed, the steps below can guide you on how you can add it back.

  1. "Go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
  2. iPhone showing how to set up email account automatically
  3. Tap Add Account, then select your email provider.
  4. Enter your email address and password.
  5. If you see Next, tap Next and wait for Mail to verify your account.
  6. If you see Save, tap Save."

Would you also try the steps below?

  1. Send an email to a contact.
  2. Craft another email, then try to send it to the same contact.

Do you get the dropdown option after sending the second one?

Please keep us posted.

Take care!
