Image Capture to separate JPG+RAW files not working in Ventura?

The former technique of separating JPG+RAW files using Image Capture to import just one type into Photos no longer works on Ventura (13.1). Any work arounds to handle this? I want to have JPGs in Photos and archive the RAW files on my HD.

You could use Image Capture to import the RAW&JPEG pairs first to a folder on your Mac, not directly into Photos.

  • Then sort the folder with the imported pairs by "Kind", so all jpegs will appear together and can be selected together.
  • Now create a subfolder for the RAW files you want to archive and move them to this folder.
  • Select the remaining JPEGS together and import them to Photos.

Keeping the RAW files and the JPEG pairs in different folders on import will ensure, that Photos will not stack them as pairs. To sort the items by file kind in the folder:
