youtube videos buffering on Macbook air only on main account

every time I click on a YouTube video it buffers for like 5 seconds, this has been happening for like a week and it only happens when im on my main YouTube account, I would switch accounts to see if it still happens and the videos load right away. I tried everything to fix it, my Mac is up to date, I've cleared all cache and data, and history etc.

Anyone has this same problem and know how to fix it?

Hello realjoe12,

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

1. Does this only happen with YouTube, or does it happen with other videos as well?

2. If it only happens with YouTube, is this happening in the YouTube app, or are you accessing YouTube from a web browser?

The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

If the issue is happening with a certain app, and the app isn't responding as expected, the information and suggestions in this link may help: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac

"If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac

When an app on your Mac stops working, try these suggestions.

  • If an app doesn’t quit as expected, or it’s unresponsive, you can force quit the app (you may lose unsaved changes). Choose Apple menu  > Force Quit, select the app in the dialog that appears, then click Force Quit.
  • If the app quit, reopen it by clicking Reopen in the dialog that appears.
  • Restart your Mac by choosing Apple menu > Restart.
  • Make sure the app is compatible with your version of macOS.
  • Open another file in the app. There may be a problem with the original file.
  • Check for updates to your software.
  • Disconnect any peripheral devices you just connected (for example, a printer). They may not be compatible with your version of macOS.
  • Uninstall any app plug-ins or enhancements from other manufacturers.
  • If you recently updated the app or macOS, a plug-in or enhancement you installed may no longer be compatible.
  • Diagnose problems with your Mac to learn whether hardware you installed, such as additional memory, is incompatible, improperly installed, or defective."

Thanks!

realjoe12,

From what you described in your original post, it would be a good idea to check to see if the issue persists in safe mode.

Start up your Mac in safe mode

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode
1) On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
2) Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
3) Select a volume.
4) Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Start up your Intel-based Mac in safe mode
1) Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
2) Log in to your Mac.
3) You might be asked to log in again.

On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Performing this step above may help resolve the issue or allow us to isolate the problem further.

If you're still experiencing the same issue, then try testing in a new user to see if you're still noticing the same problem there: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac

Please let us know the outcome after giving the above steps a try.

Hey realjoe12,

If you are not having a problem in safe mode, but it returns when booting like normal, it may be a login item loading that may be interfering.

"On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Login Items on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)

Make a list of the login items in the Open at Login list—you’ll need to remember them later.

Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .

Choose Apple menu  > Restart.

If this solves the problem, open Login Items settings again, add the login items one at a time, and restart your Mac after adding each one.

When the problem occurs again, follow the steps above to remove only the last login item you added."
