Audio balance
All of a sudden both my iPhone and iPad have lost audio balance . I only get the right side to play . Is this an Apple problem? Several different headphones have been used.

Have you checked the balance control in Settings/Accessibility/Audio/Visual? There has been no reported software issue that can cause this. Are these Bluetooth or wired headphones?

Perhaps it's a Bug Going Around?:
Over that last few days, I've read a few posts about iPhones making their own changes. So, maybe there's a bug going around? Or maybe it's all coincidence? Either way, report this to Apple...
Provide Apple Feedback:
Do your Part: Report this issue to Apple. It occurred after an update installation --something they should be made aware of. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what fixes to include in updates to come.
