When using Safari to access Netflix, I no longer see any images

When using Safari to access Netflix, I no longer see any images - only text and black boxes where the images should be. Netflix says it is a Safari problem. They had me reinstall Safari, restart my Mac and restart my modem. None of that worked. If I use Firefox as my browser, everything works fine.

The sole focus done when analyzing this report will be and has been Only on Safari and Netflix issue

Anything outside of that specific issue has Not been presented.

That will require the User to identify them and take the necessary corrective actions themselves  or request addition input.

Problem: No problem - just checking

Major Issues:

Anything that appears on this list needs immediate attention.

Q -   Battery failure - Your battery is reporting that it needs to be serviced.

Q -  Unsigned files - There are unsigned software files installed that could be malicious and should be reviewed.

Q -  More than one antivirus app - This computer has multiple antivirus apps installed.

A - There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

Additionally, specific to Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

AntiVirus Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

Much like my More Learned and Esteemed Colleague @VikingOSX has outlined the old Safari extension installed is "Ads and Stuff Blocker " which in my machines to do Not Disable when on Netflix.

Perhaps Safari >> Preferences >> Websites and has Netflix been added to " Content Blocking "

Then running behind a VPN connection ?

Then and then Third Party Security Software ?

Also from the link a TOP of this site

My mistake about re-installing Safari.1 - I only did an update to 16.3 but that did not fix the issue with no images on Netflix. I am running a 2015 Mac Pro on 12.6.3. The problem started about 2 weeks ago. No other streaming service is effected. In addition, Firefox runs Netflix fine on the same Mac. Any other suggestions?

1 - The user appears to be mixing two very different types of Operating Systems into one question.

2 - iOS 16.3 is for iPhone and iPads. That said, the current version of iOS is now 16.3.1

3 - If that is Type of Operating System is where the Netflix issue is occurring, it would be better to post that question in the IOS forums

refer to links below

iPhone - Apple Community

iPad - Apple Community

4 - As for macOS 12 Monterey ( for computers ) Yes version 12.6.3 is the latest released version

5 - If the Netflix issue is related to at computer - the same Original reply will hold the same response - do not experience this issue on several Apple computers

P. Phillips, please reread what I have provided. To repeat if helpful...

  1. My Mac is a 2015 MacBook Pro
  2. It is running Mac OS 12.6.3 a version of Monterey
  3. I am using Safari as my browser to access Netflix
  4. The version of Safari on my Mac is 16.3
  5. Below is partial screen capture of what I see when I get only Netflix
  6. The problem began about 2 weeks ago
  7. This problem does not exist with Amazon Prime video, HBO Max, PBS Passport or Hulu when using the Safari on the same Mac
  8. This problem does not exist using Netflix with the Firefox browser
  9. At the advice of Netflix support, I have tried restarting the Mac several times but no change
  10. At the advice of Netflix support, I have tried rebooting the modem several times but no change
  11. I understand that you have not replicated the problem but it is real. Possibly it is related to some settings issue and I am hoping that you can help with that.

Unless the computer is connecting to the Office Workplace or Financial Institution using a VPN is over rated. The VPN has all your personal information including Credite ? Debit card for the purchase of their Services.

Like any other Business, they are in the business to make money. What they do or do not do with your personal information is unknown.

Some, not all, use that information and repackage it to sell it to Others for, you got it $$$ to help their Bottom-line Finances

User choice to keep or get rid of the VPN

Specific to Netflix and from personal experience.

When in Thailand ( 42 trips so far since 1984 ) for extend stays ( 2 - 3 Months ) dial Home ET and connect via a VPN Located in Home Country.

Netflix has smarted up and has since devised method to detect persons IP Really Address and Blocked access to their ( Netflix ) access.

Using Safari 16.3 on 3 Apple Computers

1 is a M2 MBA, 1 is M1 MBA and 1 is M1 Mac Mini all wit the same Safari 16.3

Have no issue with Images not appearing

Q - " They had me reinstall Safari "

A - Apple does not offer a Standalone Installer for Safari.

A - Therefore it is not possible to reinstall Safari unless the computer used Recovery Mode to Reinstall the Entire Operating System

A - How Exactly was Safari Reinstalled

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

Thanks for this. I was able to remove the remaining bits of McAfee and Avira. I then restarted. Although it did not fix the Netflix problem, I do appreciate the help. The issue may have nothing to do with my Mac and could be some weird Netflix problem. I'll just use Firefox with Netflix for the immediate future. Thanks again for trying.

There will be future updates for Monterey from 12.6.3 to resolve this graphics issue with Safari 16.3 ? I finally did a reload of Monterey with Apple Support and then refused the update for Safari to 16.3...now graphics appear. Another side issue, the finder window with Monterey will not show iPhone or iPad in window for wifi bluetooth sync...I'm a little worried Apple will leave us Mac Book Pro users from early 2016 and prior will now miss out on updates completely.

When using Safari to access Netflix, I no longer see any images
