Can I use text replacement for email in login forms?
One of the reasons I use text replacement is so I don’t have to type my email address or username when logging in apps and accounts. Since a few years, but even more recently, the text replacement doesn’t work on most username and password forms. (when typing the text replacement shortcut, i can even see for a ‘bug-like’ split second an intended phrase appearing and then disappearing, I believe a year or so ago it even appeared for a tiny bit longer that you could read it, not is almost(!) instantaneous).
I completely understand if this is for security reasons, i.e. to avoid sensitive passwords being stored in the keyboard replacements instead of a better encrypted location. However, I still find it extremely mandane that I have to type my long email (firstname+lastname+numeric@server.com). Certainly the password should be well encrypted, but in 2023 typing my email 3-4-5 times a day is such an annoying moment of the iOS experience.
I just found a work around (which so far seems to be working), by adding to my keychain a nonexistent website (which i used AAAAA.com so that it appears as the first item on my keychain list) with my email as username and “0” as the password, so the username field is happily filled with my email and I only have to edit my single character password and type in my password.
Does anyone or Apple have a better suggestion that my diy workaround? I can’t stress more how mandane it seems to have to daily type a whole email address used so frequently.
