Did you find a solution to this? I have the M2 Pro chip and trying to use the same monitors as dual displays but they only mirror when hooked up. I have my macbook plugged in via usb-c with the second monitor connected to the first one via Display Port cable. The second monitor works fine and is independent from the first monitor

when hooked up via HDMI.

The conditions I stated above are the ones supported. Otherwise, you need a ThunderBolt Dock or a genuine ThunderBolt display as the first device.

Doing the same trick over USB-C cables is not supposed. USB-C only (not genuine ThunderBolt) First device is not supported. Any supported interface for second device will work fine.

The data rates involved are approaching the physical limits of how fast Digital Logic can switch. Only qualified ThunderBolt cables and devices can work fast enough and use the entire cable (all lanes) outbound.
