Calls going to computer instead of iPhone

I think this is a recent bug. When I'm somewhat around my computer, occasionally calls will go to my computer, but not my phone.

I can't find any rhyme or reason for this. Sometimes calls will ONLY ring on my computer. Other times, the phone and computer ring. I haven't changed anything in "Reachable at." I don't have Call forwarding on.

Any fixes or ideas?

Thank you for the reply! Sure, I have these options on. I've had this enabled for many years. The problem is now the computer is receiving calls to the exclusion of the phone and iPad instead of alongside them.

Either/all should ring. This is a recent issue.

Thanx, Lawrence. I like having the calls go to all devices, so I haven' turned off the feature overall. I just don't like my computer deciding that no other device should be able to get the call. 😂

I had a conversation with Apple Support yesterday. It sounds like this may have been corrected in subsequent versions of MacOS (I'm on Big Sur...going back and forth between which machine is next for me), but it's odd that the issue only began a month or 2 ago.

Hey there Adam F,

If sounds like you have your Mac set up to receive your phone calls. Here’s how you can verify if this is on:

• On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, and see if Allow Calls on Other Device is on.

• On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, choose FaceTime > Settings (or Preferences), and see if Calls From iPhone is selected.

Make and receive phone calls on Mac or iPad

Take care.

I’ve had this issue recently also where my iPad would ring but not my phone; and actually it happens with my wife’s iPhone and iPad also. If you have Wi-Fi calling enabled and Wi-Fi to other devices the device that “sees” the call first responds. I solved with a workaround of turning off Calls on Other Devices, so now only my phone (and Watch) receive calls, not my Mac or iPad.

I think this issue may have some kind of connection to FaceTime. I've found another recent problem that has been causing my VPN to disconnect or fail to attain a connection recently. VPN Support says that "something else" is trying to set DNS on my machine. I shut down other suspects. No dice. I then opened FaceTime and selected "Turn FaceTime Off." For a little while now, all has been working.

I'm really not sure what's going on here or why FT would be causing this kind of havoc. Odd...and not precipitated by any settings change I can think of.
