Messages turning green

So I was texting my mom and a message hadn’t said delivered yet. I pressed down on it and pressed a button towards the middle. Then that message turned green and would not send. I tried to text again and it wouldn’t work. I updated my phone, my iMessage and hers is on. I made a new contact for her, but when we added in her phone number is turned green again. When we made her a new contact it wouldn’t let me send anything at all and said something about the iCloud. We both have iPhones and it started after I texted her less than 30 minuets before that. I’m confused and it’s annoying because I text her in a daily basis and it’s also for my safety to be able to text my mom. Please help me!!!

Hi there ShienaIScool,

We can provide some guidance. When a messages send with a green bubble instead of a blue one, it means it's sent as an SMS message through your wireless carrier rather than an iMessage. There are a few different reasons this could happen. Have a look at this information to learn more and find out about settings you should check in this situation:

If you see a green message bubble
If you see a green message bubble instead of a blue one, then that message was sent using MMS/SMS instead of iMessage. There are several reasons for this:
- The person that you sent the message to doesn't have an Apple device.
- iMessage is turned off on your device or on your recipient’s device. To check if iMessage is turned on for your device, go to Settings > Messages > iMessage.
- iMessage is temporarily unavailable on your device or on your recipient’s device.
- You might need to update your settings for Messages after you set up a new device.

Next, if you're seeing that SMS text messages aren't being delivered, the issue is typically related to your network connection. From the screenshot you provided, it looks like you don't have a cellular network connection. You may want to reach out to your wireless carrier for more help with that.

If you see a red exclamation point
If you try to send a message and you see  Exclamation mark icon with an alert that says Not Delivered, follow these steps:
1. Check your network connection.
2. Tap  Exclamation mark icon, then tap Try Again.
3. If you still can’t send the message, tap  Exclamation mark icon, then tap Send as Text Message. Messaging rates may apply. Contact your carrier for more information.

Take care.
