Saving scanned documents and photos

My computer will not save my scanned items. "The save file operation failed to connect to the open and save panel service". What am I doing wrong? My HP scanner is a HP Envy 5055 all-in-one printer.

Hi dpedersen439,

We want to help with why you can't save scanned documents, however, we need to isolate the issue, which is why we have asked you to test without an Apple app.

Did you have a chance to test with using Image Capture?

If so, what happened? Were you able to save?

Also, which app are you using, is it one from HP? If so, is it up to date?

Use the App Store to update apps on Mac - Apple Support

If up to date have you contacted HP to verify that their app is compatible with macOS Ventura?

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support

Thanks!

Hello dpedersen439,

For difficulties with your scanner, you'll want to take the steps below:

• Make sure the scanner is plugged into an electrical outlet and turned on, and that its cables are securely connected.
• If you previously saw a scanning option and you don’t see one anymore, try deleting the scanner (or multifunction printer) and adding it again.
• If you’re pressing a button on your scanner to perform the scan, try using an app instead, such as Image Capture or Preview, or go to the scanner manufacturer’s website to see what other apps are recommended. See Scan an image using Image Capture.
• If the scanner is connected to the USB port on an AirPort base station, connect the scanner to a USB port on your Mac.
• If more than one user is logged in to your Mac, log out every user. Then log in again and try to scan.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Solve scanning problems on Mac - Apple Support

Should that still persist, are you still able to print without any difficulties?

Let us know, and we'll keep moving forward from there.

Hello dpedersen439,

To learn more, which app are you using exactly to scan these documents or images? Are you using Image Capture or a third-party app? If you haven't tested taking the scan with Image Capture, then we'd recommend trying that out next. Here's how you could do that:

  1. Go to the Applications folder > select on the Utilities folder to open up Image Capture.
  2. Connect your scanner to the computer and turn on the scanner.
  3. Select your scanner in the Image Capture app under Devices or Shared List.
  4. Scan your image.

Should it persist, are you on the latest version of Mavericks? Which Mac model are you using exactly (What's the year)? The more we can understand about the issue, the better we can assist.

Hoping to hear back.

Take care.
