How to get around redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob.

I changed my email for google and gmail. Now, I cannot access my email on my MacBook Pro

late 2011 version. It gives me this: redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob. I was able to sign out of mail on my iPhone and log back in with my update password, but there is nowhere on my MacBook Pro where I can sign out and sign back in with my updated password to gain back access. Any ideas?

I found a solution to this!

- Sign into the Google Account you want to add to Apple Mail

- Go to Settings, and select Security

- Select Two-Factor Authentication, and set this up.

- Once done, at the bottom, you’ll see App Password. Select that.

- Name the app (I used Apple Mail), and generate 16 character password.

- Copy that password

I’ve seen these steps before, and tried and tried to get someone to answer my question of “now what?”, as I couldn’t find anywhere to use it.

Then I tried this and it worked:

- Open System Preferences, and select Internet Accounts

- Scroll the list up, and select “Add Other Account

- In the list, select Mail account

- Enter the Gmail address in “Email address:”

- Paste the 16 character password in “Password:”

It took a few seconds, but then the Gmail account showed up in Apple Mail!

You’ll notice it isn’t displayed as a “G” account in the list of Internet Accounts, but who cares?! It works!

I hope it works for you too!

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

It may just need an App Password separate from the gMail password…

  • I'm having the same problem here. Few days ago, my HD crashed and I had to switch it for a new SSD (macOS Sierra 10.12.6, Mid 2010). BTW, the Mail was working just fine before the HD crashes.
  • When i try to connect/link my Gmail at my Mail, it returns an Autorization error "redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob".
  • I can access my Gmail on any Browser, but not on my Mail from Mac.

Please help?

Hello, this is a real struggle for me.

Anyone found a solution to this ?

  • redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob

It has always worked well till I had changed passwords for google.

I cannot even add anymore Gmail accounts in the APP.

It is crucial I am synced with all my work.

I cannot believe this is happening on such a massively appreciated product.

Please if any one can help I need a fix.

Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

What about application passwords? Will that keep working?

If application passwords are being used for MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) along with basic auth as another auth mechanism, then when basic authentication is disabled, app passwords used for MFA will stop working too.

Where can I find more information?

There are several resources that we wanted to provide here as additional reading:

Yep 10.13.6 is tops for you.

Mostly you just need a more modern Browser than Safari on Mojave, or High Sierra like Firefox or Brave.
