iPad stuck on dead battery screen and won’t charge

My iPad Pro M1 became very hot even when off. When I turned it on, the temperature screen came on till the battery was drained to a red icon on the screen. I have left the iPad plugged in to charge it for an entire day. The dead battery screen will not turn off and restarting the iPad will not fix the problem. The Apple icon does not even come up when I try restarting it. This started after I plugged in a usb drive to the iPad.

If I plug the iPad into my Mac to reset the iPad, will I infect my Mac with a virus or malware from my iPad?

Hey there Macman.90,

You might notice the iPad getting warmer than expected when in these conditions: If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

If it stays hot, however, or shows an alert on screen, you'll want to Contact Apple Support directly for further assistance.

Take care!
