JPEG in text message

I am also having the same problem which started after I updated my iPhone to the latest IOS

1. Try turning off iMessages in your settings.
2. Turn off phone
3. Turn phone on
4. Go to setting and turn iMessages back on (wait a min after doing so)
5. Tap on JPEG files in your messages and they will appear (some automatically)

Ever since I updated my phone to the latest IOS I am having the same issues as Bluemagic0214. I have tried resetting network settings, logging out of iMessage, restarting iphone, and no solution to this issue.

It didn’t work. Every photo on message and linked has become an attachment. Ridiculous. I want the actual photo.

never had that before. Now the pics don’t show up till the next day sometimes? I keep turning phone off and restarting.

very annoying! I have a feeling the pics come from Android phones?

a few months ago I was sent images of documents. Back then I could see them. I stored them in a folder on my MacBook Pro. Now they are illegible text messages. Is there a way I can convert them back to images?

This is a result of apple offloading images. There’s an issue due to their aggressiveness with this “feature” but what solved it for me was turning off iMessage restarting your phone and turning it on (wait a min for it to activate) then check messages again and you should be able to see them once you tap them

I have a very similar issue. Recently updated my IOS to 16.4.1 on a iPhone 12 mini and now I can’t receive images properly. I’m used to the already annoying HEIC format that Apple uses for smaller size files but I receive photos in IMessage as JPEGs which although is a more universal format, fails to open. According to some people who CLEARLY do not have or experienced this issue, it’s definitely not the IOS upgrade but either my phones fault, every person who sends me photos through iMessage, and/or the source of the images. Of course based on this response it gives me the “I’m not having this issue so it must be you” vibes. I’ve checked all and found nothing. Thanks Finch, the robot response was more useful

Clearly? Hardly! I it was “clearly” then it would be clearly noticed by millions of the 2 billion iPhone users and this forum, as well as the trade press, would be overwhelmed with comments about it. No, it is a problem with your phone, your sender’s phone, or the source of the images.

same thing with my phone.

1. go to settings and switch off imessages
2. turn phone completely off
3. turn on
4. wait a minute
5. switch on imessages

should be fixed! once you click on images

Thanks your suggestion solved my problem!I turned off iMessage in settings, turned phone off. After turning phone back on went to settings and turned iMessage back on. Went to messages and was able to open photos.

I was randomly told to back up my iCloud even though I’ve set for auto so I hope it’s not related
