I had the system screenshot app in my dock. The dock kept disappearing even though automatic hide/show was unchecked, so I moved the library preferences apple dock plist to trash and restarted iMac as suggested in another thread. Now the very convenient screenshot app has completely disappeared.

Resetting your Dock preferences with Terminal will remove any applications you've added to the Dock. You can add it back to the Dock by dragging into the dock from the /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can also activate the same Screenshot utility at any time by pressing Command+Shift+5.

Also, you can summon the Screenshots application very conveniently just by pressing the shortcut:
