Sound problems with samsung TV, Sonos beam and Apple Tv

I have Sonos Beam connected to eARC port of my Samsung Frame. The audio formatting on my appleTV 4K is “auto, Dolby atmos”. If audio is in Dolby atmos everything is great. If the audio is 5.1 it is output as stereo PCM. I have to manually change the audio settings of appleTV to 5.1 for the audio to output correctly. Besides when I try the recommended settings for the TV, pass through instead of Auto, Netflix on my Apple TV is muted when 5.1 is sending.

I have also tried the Netflix app in the Samsung TV and it works fine.

Now I have had an 2 hour chat with the Sonos support. Testing everything. The conclusion: contact the Apple support! The problem must lie there they say. So frustrating. Many people have this problem, you can see it here, you can see it in the Sonos community as well.

As I see it it is the combination of apple TV and sonos Beam/arc which causes this problem. (people reporting this problem have different TV sets.)

So has someone found a solution for this yet?

I think Sonos and Apple should try to solve this together instead of sending frustrated people to Apple/Sonos supports!

Thank you for your answer. I see many having the same problem. All having Beam and ATV4k. But with different brands of TV.

So a logical solution is that Sonos or/and Apple can produce an update to solve this.

It's LONG past the time when Apple should offer a digital audio pass-through option in the ATV4K setup. Most systems are OK with how the ATV4K does the audio decoding and passes uncompressed multichannel audio to the sound system, but it causes problems in some configurations. Somehow, the Samsung is successfully telling the ATV4K that Atmos is available, and via eARC, it's able to pass the uncompressed Atmos audio stream to the Sonos Beam (be grateful - many TV and AVRs choke on the uncompressed Atmos audio stream).

But, I suspect the Samsung isn't commincating the full capabilities of the connected Beam to the ATV4K, hence your problem with Dolby 5.1 source material.

I also blame Sonos for not including at least 1 additional HDMI input on the Beam (for simple cable management if not for superior performance with different media devices and audio formats). Bummer you need to run multiple HDMI cables to that sleek Frame.

So, plenty of blame for each vendor in your mix... wish I could offer a logical suggestion to fix your issue.
