If you're using this procedure, you shouldn't get any verification code:--> Archive or make copies of the information you store in iCloud - Apple Support

Thank you Guilio, I quite agree, I should not be asked for this verification but it keeps happening and I can't get on with what I want to do.
The full text which I receive is:
"We sent your device a notification to connect
Please accept it to give Microsoft Photos access to load your photos"
I have received no notification after several tries.
