Email purging

I would really like to be in charge of when e-mails leave my inbox AND when they leave my trash. It seems, on a couple of occasions, the e-mails in my inbox have been purged. Also, I have searched for things that I know I recently deleted and can't find them even though it finds messages as far back as 2013! WTF. How do I change these settings? I'll clean out my inbox and my trash folders - when I need them cleaned out!!

Hello Tammy31313,

If you're using Apple's Mail app on the Mac, you may try the following steps to adjust when the Trash mailbox is cleared:

  1. Open the Mail app
  2. Head to the Mail menu
  3. Select Preferences
  4. Choose the Accounts tab and select your account on the left
  5. Click on the Mailbox Behaviors tab
  6. In the "Erase junk messages" and "Erase deleted messages" sections you may change these to 'Never' if desired.
