Mic on iPhone 13 Pro Max sounds very low

For the past few weeks now my iPhone 13 Pro Max is having mic recordings issues. When I do any voice recordings the mic sound very low and noisy. But if I do video recordings the sounds is normal and sound good. What is wrong and is there a fix?

Thank you for replying Bruno75. To answer your questions. 1) it happened a few weeks ago. 2)I just noticed and people just started telling me when talking with them on my phone that they can’t hardly hear me. It sounds to them my voice is very low and lots of white noise. So I test the microphone by voice recording on the Voice Memo app. And I realized my voice is very low. But when I try a video recording my voice sounds good and normal. So it’s just issue with Voice Memo app and talking on the phone with someone. 3) I don’t use headphones or ear buds. 4) Yes I have shut the phone off a few times and restart to see if it will fix the issue but no luck. 5) Yes I have the latest IOS update.

Hey there Erichlub,

We'd like to learn more about what's happening to see how we can help, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. When did this start to occur?
  2. You mentioned that there are no issues when recording a video with sound, so which app isn't picking up the volume/quality of your voice as expected? Is it the Voice Memos app?
  3. Does this happen when using a headset, just the built-in mic on your iPhone, or does it happen with both in the same app?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  5. Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.3.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

Greetings Erichlub,

Looks like you've done some great troubleshooting already to help with isolating the issue. Great job! There are a few more steps you can try to further help with resolving this issue with the microphone on your iPhone. Check them out here: If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working - Apple Support. Some you have done, but here is a list of the ones not mentioned that you may want to try:

  1. Remove any screen protectors, films, or cases from your iPhone.
  2. Clear any debris from the openings of your iPhone.

If the issue remains after this step, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support directly, as you've gone through the other recommended steps on that page. Be sure to let them know what resource was used and the steps you completed. You can reach out to Apple Support directly by clicking here: Contact - Official Apple Support or over the phone by calling the number that is most local to your region: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support.

We hope this information helps you out.

Best wishes!
