Ripped AirPods tips

So I ripped the silicone tip of my AirPods while trying to detach them and now I can’t take the rest of it off in order to attach new tips. Can I remove the rest of it without damaging my AirPods? I saw in other questions that they used needles or tweezers but when I tried using tweezers it just ripped the part I was pulling

Seems it is a very delicate task ... don't know if anything here can really help.

Wondering if a fingernail is the best instrument to use.
