Apple TV 4K (2017?). Marantz AVR (2022). HDMI 2 cables. LG TV (2020). Sleep issues?

I have that setup working fine since November with nothing changing including a computer and blue-ray player. All the input devices connect to my AVR then through the AVR to the TV via a single output HDMI cables. I usually power down each device before switching my input device on the AVR. However with the APPLE TV 4K I can only put it to sleep. Correct? When connected by single output HDMI cable my APPLE TV 4K ALWAYS works!

However, one day I watched on another device, later in day switch to APPLE TV 4K. Fine. Next day the first device no longer displayed video. I could eventually see my TV connected to the AVR, but no signal from the first device. Tested switching devices, cables and ports with only the first device no signal. I just want to be sure sleeping the Apple 4K TV and having the AVR switched to that port when turning on the AVR again THEN switching the AVR to another device wouldn't cause any problems for the other device?

I'm pretty sure it should, but this might not be the usual tested case.

HDMI is designed to be hot swappable. It shouldn’t matter if devices are on or off, switched on or switched off, or set to a certain input from another device. There is not cause for problems on other devices by the order in which you do things connection-wise.

I thought it might have something to do with ARC or eARC HDMI-CEC(?), but I had set my TV eARC off device sending/controlling the AVR. Does ATV4K have any possible control issues? Maybe the failed device? However, your answer does give me great comfort. I am just researching while waiting for my other device repair or replacement. I'll wait a few days to see if any more comments before marking your answer BEST.

Thank you truly for your response.

As @Urquhart1244 implies, you can be more casual about all that powering on/off & switching inputs, etc. Most modern HDMI devices, including your TV and AVR, don't truly 'power down' when you press the power button... they all 'sleep' or go into standby mode - ready to be turned on via HDMI, IR remote, or a network connection.

Assuming you've got all your devices configured properly, you should be able initiate an AirPlay connection from you Mac or iPhone to your sleeping ATV4K and it'll wake up, signal the AVR and TV to 'turn on' and you'll be in business. If you then want to watch something on Blu-ray while the ATV4K is being used, simply turning on your Blu-ray player can signal your Marantz to switch input over to it.

The settings to get all the HDMI CEC functions enabled to your liking can be buried under each of your devices' setup menu. 90% of the time, I only use my ATV4K Siri remote to 'turn on' (aka 'wake') the whole system and 'turn off' everything after I wake up from couch to go to bed :-).
