Brand new AirPods Pro says “owner can see your location”

My brand new, from the Apple Store, Air Pods Pro were already named when I set them up. I did manage to rename them but I also receive a message when I leave home that says “the owner of this item can see your location…”

Your supposedly brand new AirPods are not brand new if they have been previously installed and named by someone else. It sounds like they were not properly cleared from the previous owner's Apple ID.

You don't say where in the world you live, but in most regions Apple has a 14 day no questions return/refund policy. Unless I had purchased as pre-owned/discounted stock, if I found this problem I would reject the AirPods immediately and return for exchange to genuinely new AirPods!
