Can't browse internet with Monterey using Starlink network

Recently upgraded to Monterey (from Catalina) on my Late 2013 MacPro and trying to use my Starlink network to access the internet. I'm able to successfully connect to Starlink WiFi network...launch Safari... aaaand nada.

This issue only just started since my upgrade to Monterey. Mac Pro had no problems with Catalina using Starlink.

Using Safari 16.3

Here's the kicker... I have other MacOS devices that connect successfully to the internet via the same Starlink network, but they are all running earlier MacOS versions (not Monterey) ... ONLY the devices that are running Monterey with Safari 16.3 are NOT able to browse... a new MacBook and the MacPRO.

Is this an OS issue or a Safari issue?

I've done a lot of searches for this and haven't found anything that solves the problem. Tried numerous "fixes" based on trashing preferences, resetting locations, and network settings... the problem remains. "It's GOT to be a setting, somewhere" is my default mantra at this point!

Thought about reinstalling the OS but the Monterey laptop is having the same problem.

thoughts, anyone?

Good job troubleshooting this so far.

Yes, what you describe for DNS seems correct. The greyed address being the same as the router is to be expected. Plus if it were just a DNS problem you should get a message saying that Safari could not find the server or something to that effect, not hand there for a long time.

There is a chance you may have anything, perhaps old software from before you upgraded, causing problems. Any antivirus, cleaners, vpn?

Thank you for posting the report.

There are a number of old things, but I can't see anything that would cause this.

A few more things to check:

Does the relevant network service show with a green light in System Settings? And is it the first on the list? I am guessing yes in both cases, but worth confirming.

Try restarting in Safe Mode, and see if your mac can or cannot access the internet while in Safe Mode.

Safe Mode being slow is perfectly normal. It is not meant to be used regularly, but it can help because only essential software is loaded. This way, when things work ok in Safe Mode we have reason to believe that some third party software modification may be at fault.

It does seem that at least it does load something. Let's see if rebooting the router helps.

thx for the reply, Luis...

A blank page opens and the progress bar starts to progress then stops. Page doesn't load and no error msg. Just sits dormant... I let it go for about 10 min.

As for DNS, looking at the Network settings, the DNS field is populated with the same address as the router (192.168.1.x ie) and an IPv6 address as well... both are greyed out. I tried manual addressing as well with no different result. From what I've investigated, this should be correct... the DNS should match the router address.

? I also tried using Chrome in case it was a Safari issue... same result.

What am i missing?

Yes... green light... and the network in question is at the top of the list (I pulled my ethernet cable for testing)

Re Safe mode... first off... the computer boots into this mode rather sluggishly... is this normal? Pop up windows fade in and out slowly etc.

And second, I'm getting half a web page at this point... progress bar stalls out at the 1/2 mark and I'm getting a few bits and pieces of web pages. Now, you could say that Starlink simply sucks for robustness... but my other devices load as expected speed wise... reasonably fast.

I'm going to try rebooting the Starlink router again...

Luis...

A reboot has not changed any behavior either on the MacPro (still partially loading pages) or on the other non- Monterey machines... internet access is good on those.

One other note... and possibly related... is that when this issue first came up, I wasn't able to connect to the Starlink network at all, with either the MacPro or the Laptop (both running Monterey) Every time I attempted to connect, I got the "The WiFi network "Starlink" could not be joined" dialogue box with the option to run the diagnostic... which I did... but got nothing of use from the report. Suggesting to move closer, reboot router, etc.

And btw, the DNS field was blank as well as the IP address fields. So it was getting NO info from the Starlink router. I ended up setting up the connection manually, which was ultimately successful... after several attempts. Once I was able to establish a manual WiFI connection, I was able to switch back to "Using DHCP" and the fields remained populated.

Now, I'm on the LAPTOP running Monterey (the other machine that is exhibiting the Starlink/Monterey issue) and it also cannot join the Startlink network. Same problem as the MacPro. So it appears that machines running Monterey are not receiving DHCP info from the Starlink router. At least not without a kick in the head. This doesn't sound like Apple protocol ;)

Hope all of this is clear... Any thoughts re this?

btw... thx for hanging with me on this... ;)
