Cannot sync iPad with Music on iMac

I'm trying to load all the songs on my iMac onto my new iPad. My iPad is recognized and shows up on the sidebar, but I keep getting this message: "The iPad “Deborah's iPad” could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."

Is there another way to do it? Any help appreciated.

my iMac wont get past step 2 of 4 - preparing to sync music, to iPhone I have updated the software on the iMac and iPhone, I am using a thunderbolt cable from the iMac to iPhone, using the same iCloud ID on both devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My macbook pro with 10.11.6 can't detect my brand new ipad pro....please help. I need to transfer my music onto my new ipad pro. I just purchased a brand new ipad pro. I have an older macbook pro that I have music on and need to download the music onto the new ipad pro. When I plug the ipad into the macbook, the macbook does not see the ipad in itunes for me to sync the music over. My macbook pro has 10.11.6 on it. Can someone please help me transfer over my music. This is quite urgent.

actually, I forgot to take it out of airplane mode. ;-) Worked like a charm!
