Keyboard marks on Macbook Pro M1 14" screen

After 1 year of use some permanent, non cleanable marks appeared on my screen. Specially spacebar marks and adjacent areas of the mousepad where the hand stands while typing.

Yup, same issue with my M2 Air, bought only a few months ago and the keyboard imprint is already permanent! You spend thousands on a laptop expecting quality, and yet apple lets a simple screen clearance flaw pass like this?!

Oh wow, didn't think I would risk cracking the screen with a thin enough microfibre cloth 😵‍💫 I mean the clearance is there, but if the keys manage to touch the screen there is at least some flex in the top, even pressure shouldn't do too much harm with a cloth?

Unless it bunches up of course… 🤔

NEVER Close Your Macbook Lid Without Doing THIS!

Bad idea.

What you need to do BEFORE using your laptop is wash your hands and dry them. And don't put on lotion. Also, don't eat while using your laptop.

Hello Nasar

I usually use a cleaning product called Screen Mom, which comes with its own microfibre towel. First, I spray directly onto the MacBook screen and then a little more onto the towel. Using circular motions, I wipe the screen.

I repeat this process every other day to keep it spotless.

Hope you find this helpful.

I use a keyboard protector and it still causes issues. I would't recommend it.

The marks on the screen are from the oils on your hands that you leave on the keyboard. So, if you took the keyboard protector off before closing, the screen would stay much cleaner. And be less likely to crack.

My 3-month-old M2 Air suffers the same problem. I wipe my screen with dry microfiber regularly. Still, I realize some parts of the keyboard are leaving permanent marks on the screen. I realized keeping my Macbook under pressure like in a stacked bag or putting some books on it may add new permanent spots. This is sick because you pay a lot for this device and you expect some good quality material. I wonder if putting some spacer sheet before closing the lid helps. Is there anyone who tried this?

PS. I realized some of my friends' Macbooks have the whole keyboard carved permanently on the screen after some years. Apple should offer a fix for this.

What you really need to clean regularly is the keyboard. Try to keep them as clean of finger oils and anything else as possible. Wash your hands before using your MBA. Don't use a lot of lotion. And wipe the keys down when you're done.
