Yellow Screen of Death iPhone 13 Pro Max

If you're an iPhone 13 Pro Max user who has recently updated to iOS 16.X.X, be aware of the yellow screen of death issue. This is not a user-related problem but a hardware issue caused by Apple. There’s multiple discussion on this issue. The yellow screen of death is when the screen suddenly bricks and turns yellow with horizontal lines across it.

Unfortunately, I've experienced this problem myself on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, which was out of warranty. I had to pay $493.57 to replace my screen after being rejected for a repair cost waiver by the store manager.

If you encounter this issue, don't hesitate to call Apple's hotline and request a repair cost waiver before heading to the store. Worth giving it a shot so many users here had faced this issue, which can occur even when no damage has been done to the screen.

I didn't get a refund or compensation from Apple because I had already paid for the repair as I needed my phone back urgently for business use. It is very disappointing to know that we user have to bare for this cost losing faith in Apple now!

To save yourself time and frustration, make sure to call Apple first to get the waiver if you experience this issue.

Hopefully with enough cases in the future, Apple will admit to this defect and give us user that had paid for the repair a compensation. Do leave in the comment if you had the same issue!

I facing the same issue. I still calling Applecare to reimburse me on the repair cost. a senior advisor from Apple Care revealed that if I had inquired about the repair cost prior to sending in my phone, Apple would have been able to cover it. However, since I had already paid for the repair, there seem to be limited options for resolving the issue. This situation appears unreasonable to me because, as a customer who had never encountered any problems with my phone before, I was unaware of this particular protocol. Furthermore, this incident clearly indicates that Apple has the capability to cover repair expenses, especially considering that the problem originated from an iOS issue.

Lately my phone also got the display issue( screen turning green and being unresponsive) happening mostly to iPhone 13 series models. I think most of u may already heard about this issue.

Approaching the apple authorised service centre, display replacement is the only solution they provide . If ur device is still under warranty it will be a free of cost repair. But phones which are out of warranty will cost an enormous amount ranging b/w 32 and 35 thousand rupees for the same.

My phone was already out of warranty (4-5) months ,but i still managed to get a free of cost display replacement.

So I'm sharing the process if it may help any

Call apple customer care ASAP.Once u notice the issue.Try troubleshooting steps provided by them.

If not revived ask them to transfer the call to senior team.

Elaborate the issue and answer their questions.

They will register a case regarding the same and case id will be shared to u for the convenience.

Submit the phone in apple authorised service centre for the diagnostic process.

Diagnosing charge - 1850 rs (refund subject to eligibility)

< You need to sign out from iCloud and all ur datas in phone will be lost in this process>

Once you submit the device inform customer care team

Now they will collect the diagnosis report and other infos directly from service centre itself. These will be cross examined by relevant departments.

You will be contacted then to inform exemption availed for ur case.

Thank you for your reply. My iphone 13 pro was also serviced for free. They applied the CS code when I called apple customer care and told them that my phone has yellow screen after ios update. They asked me if the issue was caused due to any physical damage. I told them it was working perfectly fine before ios update. They checked that I do not have apple store nearby so they scheduled an appointment at nearby best buy which is a apple authorized service center. Best buy then sent the phone to apple. Apple repaired it free of cost and sent it back to best buy from where I collected by device back.

Note: My iphone 13 pro was out of warranty. I bought it in 2021 and didn't have apple care.

This happened to me after updating iOS 17 on my iPhone 13 pro on 28th September and the lady at Apple service centre said it's something in the hardware caused because of the weather in India ( where I am at ) and Singapore. This makes absolutely zero sense. On further interaction she said the engineers didn't tell them the details of why it's happening. Definitely talk to apple support and book an appointment, she said they won't charge you even if it's out of warranty for iPhone 13 pro/pro max . They are changing my display and hopefully it's all okay and smooth sailing after that 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I had the same yellow/green screen issue in my iphone 13 PM. Took it to service center and they said hardware will be replaced free of cost if there are no physical damages or water spillage even though my device doesn't have apple care or warranty. Current status is device repair completed and shipped. Will be able to collect back the repaired device today or tomorrow I guess.

I had the same issue before two weeks. I approached the service center and got the screen replaced free of cost even though I didn't have valid warranty or apple care. Only requirement for free of cost replacement for this issue is there should be no physical damage or water spillage and also device should not have been opened by unauthorised personnel. Got the repaired phone back in 6 days. Hope this info helps.

Update:

I went back to Support App and have a chat with Apple Support. I informed them that their previous advice did not work and I already did a DFU restore to no avail. The chat support was very friendly.

I was then advised to bring the phone to an authorized service center here in the Philippines. I told them I am anxious about the price of the replacement for the part as I've been reading the costs of the replacement, but I was advised to visit so the device will be checked by a certified apple technician. I was sent a link to book an appointment and I selected the nearest one (about 47 miles from me). When I brought the phone, the agent advised that Apple may or may not waive the fee for the part replacement as the device is already outside the warrantly (about 2 years and 4 months old) and I will pay about 35 USD for the diagnostic fee. They will advise me via email or phone call if I needed to shell out a 50% downpayment for the part before proceeding as the part will come from Apple Singapore HQ.

To my relief, I received an email saying "Following Apple Service guidelines for iOS Devices... the DISPLAY has a hardware failure and necessary orders were already placed and approved by Apple." I am now waiting for the service to be completed and I will make another journey to pick up the device and settle the diagnostic fee. Not very bad for an out-of-warranty device.

Update: I called Apple Support. They encouraged me to go into the store so that a Genius could verify the situation and process a no-charge repair. My screen was replaced free of charge. Try the Apple Store! (Tip: the person at Apple Support had never heard of a “cost repair waiver” but said that as long as the Genius properly categorizes the type of damage (I forget the exact language but something about a colored screen) then there is no charge for the repair). Good luck!

Apple Authorized Service Centre Name: Apple Authorised Service Provider,  iDestiny, Guwahati, Assam, India.

Location: Ground Floor, Bhuyan Mansion, 231, GNB Rd, Silpukhuri, Silphukuri, Guwahati, Assam, India 781003.

My experience with the staff was excellent, especially the front desk manager and Pranjal. They were friendly, listened attentively to my problem, reassured me, and ensured the best possible outcome. Additionally, they promptly replaced my phone screen within 24 hours, subject to screen availability. Additionally, it's important to note that my phone was out of warranty, and I didn't have an AppleCare+ plan.

Regarding what occurred after the auto installation of iOS 17.2.X on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, the screen flickered and turned entirely green. Upon contacting Apple's helpline, they advised me to visit an authorized service center. Upon arrival, I was charged a diagnosis fee of Rs.1500 and informed about the need for a screen replacement, priced at Rs.37000. However, the store had to contact Apple to waive the charges due to a hardware defect. Thankfully, my phone screen was replaced free of charge. This issue appears to be common among iPhone 13 series users.

My advice: If encountering similar issues, promptly contact Apple's hotline and visit an authorized service center for helpful assistance, potentially saving both money and time.

Update:

I tried DFU restore, first with the previous and still signed version of 17.3.1.

after the restore, the screen was still Yellow Green.

then I tried to DFU restore 17.4.

After the restore,

at first I was unable to complete the setup as since the screen was Yellow Green, but all of a sudden the glitch went away after I tapped on a country (the first step of the setup) and now I am about 24 hours without the glitch.

The forum is filled with numerous identical issues. Unfortunately, if your phone is not under warranty or lacks Apple Care, Apple won't offer compensation. The best course of action is to pay for the repair if you urgently need your phone. You can hope that Apple will eventually include this issue in their service program, but by that time, the iPhone 20 might already be released. 😊

In my case this happened on latest 16.4.1 update and continued from 18th April to 20th April. I put auto brightness off, night mode off, true color off etc in settings as seen in you tube video on 18th April. But problem not resolved after changing this settings and even after factory reset. I reported to apple and they also informed me that it will not be a software issue and will be hardware issue. But the yellow screen not pop up after 21 st April till date. Really confused on this case now. Apple also not confirmed whether it was a software issue or hardware issue
