Yellow Screen of Death iPhone 13 Pro Max

If you're an iPhone 13 Pro Max user who has recently updated to iOS 16.X.X, be aware of the yellow screen of death issue. This is not a user-related problem but a hardware issue caused by Apple. There’s multiple discussion on this issue. The yellow screen of death is when the screen suddenly bricks and turns yellow with horizontal lines across it.

Unfortunately, I've experienced this problem myself on my iPhone 13 Pro Max, which was out of warranty. I had to pay $493.57 to replace my screen after being rejected for a repair cost waiver by the store manager.

If you encounter this issue, don't hesitate to call Apple's hotline and request a repair cost waiver before heading to the store. Worth giving it a shot so many users here had faced this issue, which can occur even when no damage has been done to the screen.

I didn't get a refund or compensation from Apple because I had already paid for the repair as I needed my phone back urgently for business use. It is very disappointing to know that we user have to bare for this cost losing faith in Apple now!

To save yourself time and frustration, make sure to call Apple first to get the waiver if you experience this issue.

Hopefully with enough cases in the future, Apple will admit to this defect and give us user that had paid for the repair a compensation. Do leave in the comment if you had the same issue!

Lately my phone also got the display issue( screen turning green and being unresponsive) happening mostly to iPhone 13 series models. I think most of u may already heard about this issue.

Approaching the apple authorised service centre, display replacement is the only solution they provide . If ur device is still under warranty it will be a free of cost repair. But phones which are out of warranty will cost an enormous amount ranging b/w 32 and 35 thousand rupees for the same.

My phone was already out of warranty (4-5) months ,but i still managed to get a free of cost display replacement.

So I'm sharing the process if it may help any

Call apple customer care ASAP.Once u notice the issue.Try troubleshooting steps provided by them.

If not revived ask them to transfer the call to senior team.

Elaborate the issue and answer their questions.

They will register a case regarding the same and case id will be shared to u for the convenience.

Submit the phone in apple authorised service centre for the diagnostic process.

Diagnosing charge - 1850 rs (refund subject to eligibility)

< You need to sign out from iCloud and all ur datas in phone will be lost in this process>

Once you submit the device inform customer care team

Now they will collect the diagnosis report and other infos directly from service centre itself. These will be cross examined by relevant departments.

You will be contacted then to inform exemption availed for ur case.

SAME!

1st Apple Rep made an appointment and said it could be fixed. Went in to fix the phone and was told it would cost $390 for the screen replacement. That rep said to call Apple and ask for a Payment Waiver because it is A hardware issue clashing with the update.

Called Apple again and 2nd Rep was helpful then transferred me to her supervisor.

Supervisor came on and immediately said "I'm not sure what's going on with your phone but if you have no Apple Care then there's nothing we can do." Then he asked if the screen was damaged. I was clear that the phone was well kept and in a brand new state & it happened while it was Updating to IOS17. He proceeds to say "The updates sometimes reveal existing defects that the phone had prior to the update." So I said "So it's a manufacturer's defect & what you are telling me is that I Purchased a $1000 defective phone that now can't be accessed because of the update from manufacturer who made the defective phone??" I Asked if I could speak to someone above him and he said he is the highest. So here I am with a brand new IPhone 13 Pro Max with a Dead Yellow Screen. 😡

This happened to me last night. Perfect working phone, talked on it, and went to bed- woke up to yellow screen. I opened a case with Apple but they say it's a hardware issue and they need to run diagnostics. I don't know how a perfect working phone goes to yellow screen during an update. I'm a single mom and teacher.

I'm hoping they help me at the store when I try to go.

I used the Support App and tried to reach Apple Support via Chat. The agent asked a few questions and led to asking me if I use the Standby feature, the one where the screen displays stuff when plugged in and connected to a charger. While chatting, the problem is very rampant, I almost lost the session as I completely froze because I cannot see anything but Yellow Green and I am unable to response. The agent asked to disable Standby and since then, the flickering stopped. I do hope this is the fix for me.

update: nope. After a few minutes here we go again :(

I’m a 13 Pro user and have faced this yellow screen of death after the 16.X.X Software Update. I was given an appointment at apple care at their authorised service centre and the man refused to help me he said show me what it looks like. When I visited the store my phone was working fine. How do the expect you to show them the yellow screen when this occurs on and off initially only for a couple of minutes. I asked him to google it and said that a lot of other users were facing the same problem he refused to do that. I then roamed around the store aimlessly waiting for my screen to turn yellow then immediately went to show him… he said I need to update my software to the latest version and did that in the store……he said if it occurs again the only solution is for me to pay for the screen change and that it was going to cost me around ₹23000… After the new update my phone worked 4 days problem free… on Day 5 I was not able to use my phone the entire day…Now my phone is not in warranty… so why should I pay for anything if it is no fault of mine and the problem was apple’s recent software update… so I called apple care again and complained they said to show them so I have tried to take a screenshot when this occurs to complain again and show apple care/support but it screenshots the last screen you were looking at on your phone. So in effect you need to have another phone to show them what the yellow glitchy screen with horizontal lines look like…

Today my phone came on in the morning so I immediately called their support center and then my screen went kaput for the whole time I was conversing with them so now they have given me another appointment and said that I have to deposit my phone and it will take 7 working days and they will get back to me… I think this is unfair why should you run around so many times and wait 7 days with no phone…what is going to be the outcome of this is yet to be seen…

I encountered a similar issue with my iPhone 13 Pro Max just over 2 years after purchasing it. Suddenly, the screen started flashing yellow with horizontal lines. This problem arose shortly after the 17.5.1 update. There was no damage or drops to the phone.

I suspect it's a hardware manufacturing defect, as indicated by many discussions on Apple Community and other forums. I am deeply disappointed with the service I received at the Apple store in Koramangala, Bangalore. They charged me over INR 2200 for a diagnostic run just to confirm it wasn't a software malfunction. I learned from a friend that the same store charged him only INR 1800 for a similar inspection. It's incredibly frustrating to receive such inconsistent and seemingly arbitrary service after investing so much in an iPhone. During my visit to the store, I discovered that other few customers in the store had reported the same problem. iMagine support folks informed me that because the device was out of warranty, I would need to pay around INR 35,000 for a display replacement.

I was told to wait for a week to ten days for repairs, citing the reason of parts availability. I also contacted Apple support for further assistance. Now, I'll have to wait and see how it progresses. Will update this forum, later, with the solution I received.

lets get the ball rolling on this, if we can create a case then we all should. 430 people experiencing this is NOT a coincidence! apple knows what they're doing and choosing to ignore it and they are forcing us either to repair it for $500 or get a new phone. so please continue to badger and pest the apple support team until they can actually do something cuz until now all they're useless.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it was just out of warranty. The iPhone all of the suddenly turned yellowish green with horizontal lines across screen. I was just browsing on the phone normally when the problem occurred. I had never dropped the phone or any damage to it. The sensing and all the phone software were still okay. But no screen display.

This is a hardware manufacturing malfunction! There are many discussions of this defect on Apple Developer and other forums too.

I feel truly disappointed at Apple Taipei 101 store and received very bad customer experience. The Taipei 101 store refused to do any inspection to find the cause of the issue. They knew there were many customers had the same issue, but just used out-of-warranty as an excuse to turn down customers. Quoted me NTD 10,700 to replace a new screen and tried to sell me Apple Care. This is outrageous!

I had the yellow screen come up on my phone, its under two years old and happened after I did the latest update. Apple is refusing to fix it as its apparently been "tampered with" even though the only repair that's been done was a screen replacement that was completed through an Apple authorised store. I spoke to multiple people on the help line to figure out exactly what part of the phone has been tampered with and no one could answer that question and eventually someone said "maybe it's a screw" as if that's going to cause my screen to turn completely yellow..... ridiculous.

I had got a IPhone 15 Pro of them and not even a month later it done this to me, it’s a defect on most IPhones but not all of them. well that’s what they told me and I had to get my screen replaced. Free of charge as was in limited warranty anyways, it made me pay for AppleCare + now incase it happens again. seems to be a reoccurring thing

Mine started today iPhone 13 Pro Max, I noticed that when i watch videos, the screen will flicker then all of a sudden the screen goes yellow green. Touch is still working though as I can feel the vibration/haptic feedback with the gestures. The issue goes even more rampant when the device becomes hot. I have never dropped this phone ever. It’s about more than 2 years old (bought about a month after release). I can barely type this message as it’s more frequent now :(

I don’t know if this will be repaired without shelling out bucks as we don’t have genius bar or the official apple store here in the Philippines.
