HomePods workout Apple TV

Am I able to connect my HomePods to my TV without the Apple TV? I have seen people showing how to make it the default speaker, but they all suggest having a supported Apple TV, how can I achieve the same without the Apple TV?

HomePods use the AirPlay 2 protocol. There are some TVs that may be able to select HomePod for audio output if they are found on the network, but your TV may not be one of them.
