setup homepod2 after deleting from home app

My HomePod 2s stopped working. I tried many steps to reconnect, following many difference sources of advice on the net. None worked. I deleted the pods from my home app to try to reinstall. I am running iOS 16.4 on my iPhone, bluetooth is on. Before I deleted the pods from Home, they showed iOS 16.3.3.

I unplugged the HomePods. After I waiting some minutes and replugged them, no lights or chimes occurred. When I hold my finger in the middle of the volume surface nothing happens. When I press the +, Siri tells me that she is having trouble connecting to the internet.

From Reset HomePod or HomePod mini - Apple Support:

Reset HomePod or HomePod mini

Unplug HomePod or unplug the power adapter for HomePod mini. Wait 10 seconds, then plug HomePod back in.
Wait 10 seconds, then touch your finger on the top of HomePod and hold it there.
The white spinning light will turn red. Keep your finger down.
Siri will say that your HomePod is about to reset. When you hear three beeps, you can lift your finger.

After removing the pods from my Home app, these steps to reset the pods allowed me to add them to home as new devices.

That restoration was an involved process that takes much patience, some trial and error, and a little luck — all not completely, clearly documented in the advice that I found from Apple or others.
