Right after update to macOS Ventura play/pause buttons stop working, what can I do to fix it?
Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally. Sometimes that will fix anomalies.

On Sonoma:
I had two keyboards attached and didn't realize it.
1. Open System Settings.
2. Open Keyboard Shortcuts.
3. Scroll down to the bottom to find Modifier Keys.
4. View Select keyboard and select Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.
5. Click Done.
6. Close the iTunes/Music app completely.
7. Try to use the Play/Pause button on the keyboard.
8. The iTunes/Music app functionality should be restored and open using just that key.
