How do I fix my message app on my iPhone?

Are you “Restoring” your iPhone to factory via iTunes on a computer or are you just Erasing All Content and Settings via the Settings on your iPhone?

If it’s the latter, you’re not really fixing the issue and you should really be “Restoring” your phone to factory via iTunes.

My phone also started having the same problem at almost the exact same time. I did an update today, but it didn’t fix it. My email has also been crashing, but the messages app is the worst!

Happening here as well, when I try opening messages from either home screen or settings it just crashes and the phone restarts, this is even after doing a full factory reset with barely anything on the phone, when I do a hard restart it works for a minute then crashes and restarts, running iOS 16.5

Getting Out of a Boot Loop:

Your iPhone is stuck in a boot loop. This typically happens when an install stalls wile in the process. Your Factory Reset was unsuccessful.  So, refer to my User Tip: How to Fix an iPhone in a Boot Loop - Apple Support

Same exact thing on mine. Super frustrating. Using my iPad for texts 🤦‍♀️

Messaging app keeps crashing whenever I start a new message the app freezes, ever since latest update.

Same. All Apple Apps are down. Can only use WhatsApp and Google Apps. All my friends are having the same issue.

Same here! It freezes while I am typing. I have to close the app and start my message all over again.

Most likely due to an insane amount of storage in the messaging app specifically.

off loading messages to iCloud is the best way to resolve issue but will take ALOT OF TIME

I’m having the same issue. I tried restarting the iPhone. I even deleted all my messages. Nothing works

I give up. Seems like Apple isn't coming out with a fix. Backed-up my phone and erased it. Fingers crossed. Hope this works.

Does anyone (from Apple) actually provide any suitable answers here?? I have the same issue exactly and can't find any response. I guess it would be fixed in the next update.

Me and my family have the same problem since today.

we are using iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro

Almost all apple apps are troubling, and some more as well. I cannot open phone app, message app, contacts app anymore, I only got a white screen and then the app crashes. I cannot phone or message anymore. The Find my app has same issues, sometimes it freezes, sometime all my AirTags vanished, then appear again. Also apps like Amazon or Facebook messenger keeps freezing at start, my Apple Music is able to find music, but I can't play any song. I tried two restart methods, volume up/down, then power and slide the control to shut down. And keep holding the power button to force a restart. Nothing worked for me. My iPhone seems dead since 6 hours.

I got a MacBook Pro M3 Pro and an iPad Pro, and all these devices are running fine. My wife's iPad Air is also working. Only our 3 iPhones are dead.

Does messages/contacts/phone app use iCloud at startup? It seems that the phones have trouble with iCloud. But I can access my iCloud files. Also photo sync was not working for a while, at least this started again. I don't want to logoff from iCloud because I don't know if I will loose some data. Why this happens to my entire family?

Any ideas how to handle this? I'll wait for tomorrow and check if the issue still present.
